Plan a nanny’s school routine around named responsibilities: who prepares the child, who collects or receives them, how the school authorises that person, and how the parent receives an update. Write the routine before the first school day. School collection, transport, homework support and housekeeping are separate tasks that need a clear place in the agreed role and schedule.

One chain of responsibility across the school day

Authorise

Register the responsible adult through the school.

Prepare

Check the dated routine, bag and travel arrangement.

Handover

Follow the agreed school and home release process.

Update

Tell the parent what changed and what comes next.

Original planning workflow; collection and transport use the actual school’s applicable procedures.

Start with the child and the actual school procedure

Record each child’s age, school or nursery, class, usual arrival and departure arrangements and the parent’s contact order. Obtain the school’s current collection instructions directly. Complete its authorisation process before assigning collection, and explain the location, identification or access procedure it uses. A family’s verbal request is not a substitute for the school’s own release process.

For Abu Dhabi private and charter schools, ADEK’s Parent Engagement Policy addresses communication about authorised persons, transport protocols and changes to collection arrangements. Families in other emirates should use their school’s applicable handbook and instructions. Do not transfer one school’s access rules to another.

Build one standing school-day sheet

This original worksheet gives the nanny and parent one reliable reference. Store it securely and share only the information needed for the role.

Separate transport from supervision

State how the child travels and who provides lawful, suitable transport. A nanny role does not automatically include driving, a vehicle or permission to collect a child. Discuss the individual’s experience with the child’s age group and the exact route or handover needed. If school collection overlaps with caring for a younger child at home, assign another responsible adult or change the schedule.

Use INAYA’s maid, nanny and babysitter comparison when deciding the role. The nanny selection guide explains individual suitability questions; school-age routines need their own practical discussion even when the same person has infant-care experience.

Keep daily changes short and explicit

Maintain a standing sheet for the normal routine, then send a separate update for changes such as an activity, early finish or a different authorised collector. Write the date and ask the receiver to acknowledge the change. Identify who informs the school; do not assume a message to the nanny also updates school records.

Make responsibility explicit whenever the child passes between the school, transport provider, nanny and parent. If the expected adult is absent or an unfamiliar person requests the child, follow the school’s process and the parent’s escalation instructions. Never resolve a disputed handover by guessing. Health information and any medicine arrangements should follow the parent’s instructions and the relevant school or healthcare procedures, without turning a childcare role into clinical treatment.

Review the home handover as carefully as collection

Agree what the parent needs to know: collection completed, relevant school messages, food or belongings requiring attention and the next day’s change. Keep the report factual and protect the child’s privacy. The Abu Dhabi ECA competency framework provides a useful reference for family communication and child-safety awareness; it does not certify an individual worker through this article.

Describe school-day duties alongside the other work through INAYA’s nanny service page and household duties guide. Include the emirate, actual school routine and any overlapping childcare needs when discussing the schedule.

Customer questions and answers

Does hiring a nanny automatically include school collection?

Record collection as an explicit duty and complete the school’s authorisation process. Agree the schedule and transport separately.

Can the nanny also look after a younger child during collection?

Map the overlap before deciding. A responsible adult must cover the child remaining at home while another adult handles collection.

How should I communicate an early school finish?

Send a dated change, obtain acknowledgement and identify who informs the school. Keep the normal standing routine separate from the day’s exception.

What information should a school handover include?

Include the designated adult, collection or arrival location, applicable school process and parent contact order. Share relevant school messages and belongings at the home handover.
