One person may be able to perform more than one agreed household task, but the scope must match their skills, lawful occupation and a realistic schedule. Do not assume that “domestic worker” means every cleaning, cooking and childcare task is automatically included or can be performed simultaneously.

The employment contract must record the work to be performed. The worker must follow lawful instructions within the agreement, and instructions must not breach the contract or expose the worker to danger. Occupation changes require the worker's consent and must remain within the occupations covered by the law. Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 7 Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 11 Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 12

Describe tasks rather than relying on broad labels

For cleaning, identify rooms, equipment, surfaces and priorities. For cooking, describe the meals, recipes and equipment used in your home. For childcare, specify the child's age, supervising adult and exact assistance required.

This turns an unclear promise of “all household work” into a scope both parties can understand. The recruitment agreement should also record the required worker characteristics and duties. Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 6

Check tasks that overlap

Household situationQuestion to resolve
Cooking while a child needs supervisionWho has responsibility for the child at that time?
Several rooms need cleaning before a mealWhich task has priority and which can wait?
A task needs unfamiliar equipmentWho provides instruction and checks competence?
A relative needs clinical careWhich licensed healthcare professional is responsible?
Work continues during rest or leaveWho provides cover and what legal arrangements apply?

A practical schedule should identify priorities and handovers, not merely list a large number of duties.

Keep specialised work separate

Relevant professional licensing remains necessary where a particular occupation requires it. A caregiver or nanny title does not establish a nursing licence. For clinical needs, arrange assessment and support through an appropriately licensed healthcare professional. Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 4 MOHAP: licensing nursing and medical professionals, PDF p. 1

Similarly, verify individual experience before assigning specialist tasks. A candidate's nationality or general profile is not proof of cooking, language or newborn-care proficiency.

Preserve rest, leave and safety

The law provides at least twelve hours of daily rest, including eight consecutive hours, and one paid weekly rest day. If the worker works on that rest day, the applicable alternative rest or pay must be provided. A live-in arrangement does not remove these entitlements. Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 9

The employer must provide work tools and appropriate safety arrangements. The regulation addresses protective equipment and safety instruction. If equipment, products or a task are unfamiliar, organise a proper explanation rather than treating confusion as misconduct. Federal Decree-Law 9/2022, Article 11 Cabinet Resolution 106/2022, Article 12

For the flexible package described in MOHRE's manual, the specific daily work limit is eight hours. Do not assume that provision identifies the working schedule of every INAYA monthly package. MOHRE operations manual 5/2024, Arabic PDF pp. 11–12

Review changes before adding duties

If household needs change, discuss the new work with the worker and the contracting agency or employer. Check that it remains within the lawful occupation and agreement. Substantial new duties may need a revised scope or additional help; they should not be hidden in an informal instruction.

Hypothetical example: A family needs breakfast preparation, cleaning and afternoon childcare. It agrees priorities and provides separate supervision when tasks overlap. The written schedule makes each handover and priority clear.

Before selecting a service, prepare a short duty list with frequencies, priorities and the supervising person. Contact INAYA to confirm the working arrangement, duties, schedule and terms included in your selected package. Agree the duties and schedule in writing before choosing a package.
